Our small family-ran County Durham-based distillery is celebrating after one of our flagship gins won in the flavour category of the Gin Guide Awards.
Our distillery, which is based in Darlington’s countryside, has secured an award for the flavour of our Sir John Lambton strawberry and mint gin.
The gin, which was judged against hundreds of others from over 30 countries, came out on top in a blind taste test based on its style, flavour profile, botanicals, and alcohol by volume (ABV).
The Gin Guide Awards, one of the sectors most widely recognised and respected organisations, aims to celebrate and give global recognition to exceptional products, distilleries, and people within the gin industry; and the Dragon Slayers impressed the panel of judges.
Our 26-year-old managing director Yasmin Gibson, said it’s a huge achievement for the family business, which fired up its copper still just two years ago.
“When I found out we won I was ecstatic; it meant the world to me because each day we’re getting to live our dream, and we just want others to love our gin as much as we do – it really is our pride and joy.
“I felt extra nervous as this is the first award, we’ve entered in which the gin itself is judged, so to know it’s now award-winning is amazing.
“We’d love to be a household name, so this is a huge step in the right direction towards becoming the North East’s go-to gin.”
In 2020, we set out to create a refreshing high-quality gin.
Paul Gibson, Yasmin’s father, is proud of his daughter for pushing their endeavour forwards.
He said: “I was over the moon when I found out about winning the award, it means so much to us as a distillery.
“I’m proud of what we have managed to achieve in such a short space of time, all thanks to Yasmin’s sheer determination.
“I can’t wait to see what the future holds for our family business and for the North East gin sector.”
We currently offer two gins, which are inspired by the historic folklore of the land which surrounds our distillery.
